Abstract
Developments during 1987 are highlighted. Notable among them are big gains for mobile communications, the growing use of optical fiber, open networks for providers of services, and the success of the French videotex system. An expert opinion is offered by Eric Nussbaum, assistant vice president of Bell Communications Research Inc.'s network systems and services research laboratory, who discusses the progress in ISDN trials.
