Abstract
The highly competitive service sector of the economy is important and growing. Expert systems can provide a competitive edge for companies in the service sector. Reasoning from examples in health care, education, financial services, transport and marketing, argues that expert systems can preserve and distribute knowledge, enhance standardization, improve service and reduce costs.Keywords
