Abstract
Streptomycin was successfully used in the treatment of two cases of bacterial endocarditis caused by typical Streptococcus viridans. The causative organism was isolated in each case and detd. to be insensitive in vitro to serum penicillin levels of 10 and 5 U./ml. resp., but sensitive to streptomycin concns. of 8 and 16 U./ml. The concn. of streptomycin maintained in the blood ranged from 2.5-5x that required to inhibit the organism in vitro, and clinical cure resulted. Keywords
