Abstract
Late prehistoric culture history and settlement patterns in the southeastern corner of Arizona have received scant attention. Several recent surveys of the northern San Bernardino Valley in southeastern Arizona provide new information to interpret this area. Survey data are used to evaluate changes in the number, size, and location of sites dating between A.D. 875–1450. These data suggest wide use of the valley before A.D. 1150, with a reorganization of settlements at A.D. 1150, marked by less use of the foothills and more intensive use of well-watered lower elevations. The implications of these settlement changes are examined.
