Abstract
The results of ESR studies of the exchange-coupled pairs in (NPr4)3Cr2Cl9 are presented. In this material the (Cr2Cl9)3- anion shows ESR spectra from all the manifolds to different total spin (J=1, 2, 3). A large deviation from the Lande interval rule is found which can be represented in terms of an exchange Hamiltonian H= Delta 1(S1.S2)- Delta 2(S1.S2)2+ Delta 3(S1.S2)3 with Delta 1/k=16.1K, Delta 2/k=3.8K and Delta 3/k=0.71K. Comparisons with previous studies of this anion in different crystals show that the magnetic properties of (Cr2Cl9)3- are closely similar, despite differences in crystal structure and symmetry. Keywords
