Abstract
Proustite is an acentric uniaxial crystal of class 3 m which is transparent from 06 to 13 μm. The half-wave voltages of `transverse' electro-optic modulators using proustite under `clamped' conditions have been measured for two crystal orientations using visible light from a He-Ne gas laser. In each case the half-wave voltage was about 10 kv, leading to the following values of `clamped' (high-frequency) electrooptic coefficients: n03r22=29×10−10 cm V−1 and n03r13-ne3r 33 = 70×10−10 cm V−1. Resistivity and dielectric constant measurements have also been made on these crystals.
