Abstract
The knot properties of surgical silk of different dimensions and from different manufacturers have been studied. Large variations were found. It is proposed that the differences are due mainly to the braiding technique. Only very few surgical silk sutures can be securely tied with a square (reef) knot today. A knot with three square throws is therefore recommended for modern surgical silk. Keywords
