Abstract
The experience of a large‐scale smoking cessation clinic which was set up in conjunction with a mass media campaign, is described. The therapies employed were selected as suitable for use with large numbers of clients, could be self‐applied and were suitable for short term programmes. Approximately one in four of those who attended at least one session reported they had ceased smoking. Hypnosis‐assisted treatment was the least successful treatment. Overall compliance with the programme was low. The implication of these findings for future programmes is discussed. Keywords
