Abstract
Metal-MgO single crystalline composite films including nm-sized metal crystallites (Au, Pd, Fe, Co, Ni) and atom clusters were prepared by a simultaneous vacuum-deposition. The atomic structures and their influences on the electric resistivity and magnetic properties were studied for Au–MgO and Fe–MgO composite films. The resistivity of the Au–MgO films is affected by gold clusters embedded in MgO films. The magnetic properties of the Fe–MgO films show a spin glass like nature that may be due to aggregates of iron crystallites. Growth of nm-sized γ-iron crystallites is also found in as grown Fe–MgO composite films prepared at 350°C.Keywords
