Abstract
The author attempts to categorize some of the spread spectrum proposals and outlines why it is necessary to differentiate between the issues raised by the proposed wireless services and those raised by the proposed wireless equipment. In particular, the author focuses on some of the requirements of introducing wireless telephones into office systems such as private branch exchanges (PBXs) and key systems. The options and tradeoffs examined include personal communication networks versus cellular systems, interference reduction versus capacity enhancement, and citywide networks versus in-building PBXs.<>Keywords
