Abstract
The crushing strength of 170 specimens of shells of 21 spp. of Thaididae was measured. The tropical shells are much stronger, mass for mass, than the temperate ones. This strength is achieved mainly by the shells being thicker walled in the tropics, leaving less room for the animal inside. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
