Abstract
The measurements of the nuclear cross sections for negative pions at 85 Mev, recently made by Chedester, Isaacs, Sachs, and Steinberger, have been extended to 113 and 137 Mev. The total absorption plus inelastic scattering cross sections were obtained from a transmission measurement in poor geometry. The cross sections are all close to the geometrical value, , within the accuracy (15 percent) of this technique. With the possible exception of carbon there is no evident energy dependence in the range 85 to 137 Mev.
