Abstract
General consideration for the application of a topographical data base, the achievable accuracy and the utilization of the output data for a planning procedure are discussed. The data base and the prediction algorithm used in the Federal Republic of Germany are described. A statistical analysis of prediction errors is presented. Proposals for improvements of the data base and of the prediction algorithm are suggested. Keywords
