The Press in Central and Southern Africa

Abstract
The last five years have seen very rapid change in [the political] landscape. Everywhere in Africa young men and women are speaking out in defence of democracy and human rights. Their voices can no longer be submerged by the subterfuge of official rhetoric. Their voices and anger are finding expression in independent newspapers and magazines struggling against great odds and at great risk to their editors and publishers.
