Abstract
To the Editor: Recently, the cloning of a candidate gene for the cystic fibrosis locus was reported.1 DNA probes from this region identify restriction-fragment–length polymorphisms (RFLPs) that reveal strong linkage disequilibrium with the cystic fibrosis genotype, indicating that most or all mutant genes in the population are descended from a single mutational event. We have studied North American families, using two of these RFLPs — one detected with XV-2c probe and the restriction enzyme TaqI1 and the other with a probe designated KM-19 and the enzyme PstI (Estivill X, et al: unpublished data). Using RFLPs at the met . . .Keywords
