Individual & Political Freedom

Abstract
The pleasant thought that we all know the meaning of freedom will not bear scrutiny. We are not always able to distinguish free actions from those induced by direct or indirect manipulation. Professor Preston argues that free actions are those which result from conscious deliberation. He proposes a concept of freedom that identifies its substantive characteristics and relates it to logically relevant capacities and conditions for conscious deliberation in specific areas of choice and action.
