Abstract
Total absorption coefficients of furan vapor were determined in the region from 1050 to 2150 A by a photoelectric method, and photoionization coefficients in the region from 1050 to 1400 A with an ion chamber. A reassignment of the absorption bands in the region from 1400 to 1700 A yielded two Rydberg series converging to 8.89 ev in agreement with the ionization potential obtained by photoionization measurements. Another Rydberg series was found to converge to 9.95 ev corresponding probably to the removal of an inner π electron of furan. Keywords
