Abstract
One hundred ninety-five patients with idiopathic myeloid metaplasia were observed from 1960 through 1970. Eight of 165 patients with idiopathic myeloid metaplasia arising de novo died of acute leukemia proved at autopsy. Five of 29 patients with postpolycythemia vera myeloid metaplasia died of acute leukemia. In the transition of idiopathic myeloid metaplasia to acute leukemia, four patients died from acute myelomonocytic leukemia and four from acute granulocytic leukemia. In the transition of postpolycythema vera myeloid metaplasia to idiopathic myeloid metaplasia to acute leukemia, three deaths resulted from acute myelomonocytic leukemia and two deaths from acute granulocytic leukemia. No significant role for therapy could be determined in the evolution of idiopathic myeloid metaplasia to acute leukemia. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
