Abstract
The effects of sublethal doses of DDT and DiazinonR applied to adult female house flies was previously reported for an Orlando strain of DDT-resistant flies. Using the same procedures the study has been extended to 2 additional DDT-resistant strains, the DDT-45 and the Roberds strain. In general, the results parallel those of the 1st study. The potential adult offspring was reduced substantially (25 to 30%) when sublethal doses of DDT or Diazinon were topically applied to females of the Roberds and DDT-45 strain. The reduction in offspring was apparent in fewer in females laying eggs, and also in fecundity, fertility (with DDT) and survival of offspring. A similar reduction occurred with Diazinon except that fertility was not adversely affected. The causes for this reduction in numbers of offspring are not known. Keywords
