Abstract
The thermal fluctuations in electric field and vibrational amplitude associated with optical surface phonons in dielectric spheres are derived and compared with the corresponding bulk-phonon fluctuations. Expressions for the Raman scattering efficiencies of bulk and surface phonons in very small spherical crystals are obtained, and numerical results for the case of GaP are presented. Keywords
