Abstract
The volume integrals per nucleon pair of the microscopic light-ion potentials derived by the resonating group method show a quite characteristic dependence on the light-ion mass number. This mass-number dependence shows good semi-quantitative correspondence with the observed mass-number dependence of the real part of the light-ion optical potential. The mechanism which generates this mass-number dependence is investigated in detail in analytival and numerical ways and is attributed to the defect of the mutual interaction energy of the projectile nucleons caused by the Pauli exclusion exerted by the target nucleons.
