Abstract
Rifamycin-SV was used in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis by intravenous drip, since intramuscular administration gave poor results because of the rapid elimination of the antibiotic through the biliary routes. Serum levels exceeding 15 [mu]g/ml and lasting for approximately 5 hrs. were obtained by administering 1.25 g of antibiotic diluted in 500 ml of saline, in the form of an intravenous drip for about 3 hrs, followed within half an hour by an additional intramuscular injection of 250 mg of the drug. The blood levels varied (particularly in relation to the liver function). The clinical results were satisfactory. All the patients tolerated the drug well, even those with functional impairment of the liver. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
