On Quantum Teleportation using Parametric Down-Conversion

Abstract
The experimental realization of quantum teleportation as performed by Bouwmeester et al. is studied [Nature, 390, 575 (1997)]. In our analysis we also consider a generalised version of this experiment, taking into account the detector efficiencies and a detector cascade in the state-preparation mode. We found that detector cascading in order to distinguish between one or several photons is of limited use in this situation. It is shown that employing two parametric down-converters automatically probes the non-Poissonian structure of these sources. A discussion for the fidelity of the teleported state prior to Bob's detection is given. Several interpretations of the experiment are discussed in the light of this fidelity. Finally, we find that in order to have unconditional quantum teleportation there is a lower limit to the detector efficiency or a necessity for a decrease in the production rate of one of the photon-pair sources.
