Abstract
An outline is given of the physical considerations underlying the design and construction of a simple ruling engine capable of producing gratings suitable for X-ray spectroscopic purposes, such as the electron probe micro-analysis of the elements of low atomic number. Gratings up to 3 cm square can be ruled with a pitch of 300 lines per mm.Keywords
