Abstract
A landholder''s attempt to control rabbits on 20,880 ha of semi-arid western New South Wales [Australia] is described. Warrens (1140) were destroyed by ripping using a crawler tractor and trailing ripper. At the end of a 9-yr study period there were only 17 active warrens in the treated area, compared with 370 warrens in a neighboring area of 11,800 ha in which no warren ripping had been carried out. The work was fitted in with the normal management practices on the property and used a crawler tractor purchased for other work only when it was available. Recolonization pressure from an adjacent area was high in some areas, but followup trapping, fumigating and digging appeared effective. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
