A National Study of Residential Care for the Aged

Abstract
A national survey of Residential Care Home (RCH) programs and a 5-state survey of RCHs and the elderly they serve revealed that in 1980 there were 118 RCH programs regulating 29,282 facilities serving some elderly with a total of 371,734 beds. Most facilities were family owned and operated. A provider survey revealed that homes regulated by departments of health were more institutional than were homes regulated by integrated, social service departments. Elderly residents had high satisfaction and only 13.2%of elders fit poorly into homes.
