Pasteurella multocidaInfections: A Report of Six Cases

Abstract
6 cases of P. multocida infections are reviewed; 2 following cat bites, 2 following dog bites, and 2 complicating bronchiectasis. The cat has been the most common animal incriminated in human infections. The majority of the infections are a localized cellulitis although osteomyelitis and more generalized infections have been reported. These organisms, even though they are Gram negative bacilli, are highly susceptible to penicillin. The sensitivity pattern can be helpful in the identification of these organisms. Penicillin is the antibiotic of choice in treatment of these infections although chloromycetin, erythromycin, and tetracyclines are also effective.
