Abstract
The diamagnetic behaviour of xenon nf Rydberg states is studied using single-mode dye laser excitation and an R.F. optogalvanic detection method The levels are followed from their zero-field positions, through the inter-l and inter-n diamagnetic mixing regimes, until they reach the zero-field 2P3/2 ionization threshold, where the so-called « quasi Landau » regime is observed and up to 20 cm -1 above this threshold The positions of the dominant lines are found to be in agreement with the results of hydrogenic calculations and with the predictions of a semi-classical approximationKeywords
