Abstract
Supplementary I intake up to 22 mg of KI had no influence on serum inorganic I or protein-bound iodine (PBI) level. Increasing amounts of KI from 0.044 to 2.816 g/day affected the serum inorganic I content in proportion to the amount fed. The PBI values rose with KI intakes above 0.044 g to a high of 792% with an intake of approximately 1.4 g. After supplemental feeding was terminated the serum inorganic I fell rapidly during the first few days, returning to the basal value in 2 weeks, and the PBI values approached the basal level within 8 weeks. In order to maintain a high therapeutic level in the blood, no more than 2 days should elapse between treatments. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
