Abstract
Managers of outdoor recreation areas have become increasingly concerned about biophysical and social impacts resulting from increased recreational use and have turned to a carrying-capacity concept as a strategy for limiting and managing high levels of recreational use. This concern has led managers of many outdoor recreation resources to implement a use-limit policy based on an estimate of the area's carrying capacity. This article discusses some of the questions and issues that use-limit policies pose for the tourism industry.
