Abstract
The effects of a histidine deficiency on weight, nitrogen intake and nitrogen balance have been investigated, employing both ad libitum and force-feeding procedures. The variation in the weights and nitrogen balances of the animals receiving the ration ad libitum and by a force-feeding procedure may well be attributable to differences in the amounts of ration consumed. A lack of food utilization in animals force-fed the amino acid-deficient ration was noted and a corresponding lack of appetite in animals fed the same ration ad libitum. A possible biological mechanism for explaining these observations has been suggested. Keywords
