Components of Daphnia feeding behaviour

Abstract
Measurements of filter limb beat rate, mandible movement rate, and bolus swallowing rate from individual Daphnia magna are collated with the grazing rates of groups of animals free-swimming under similar conditions. Significant effects of temperature, food concentration and angular light distribution are recorded, and the data are interpreted in the light of possible mechanisms controlling the cladoceran feeding process.
