Abstract
Small‐angle neutron scattering experiments were performed on compression‐crept alumina. The results suggest that grain‐boundary cavities, on the order of 100 nm in diameter, probably are present initially. For compression strains up to 8%, the average cavity size changes very little. However, the cavity density approximately triples, and it appears that the cavities become elongated in the direction of the compression axis. Keywords
