Gravitational Electromagnetic Duality

Abstract
We develop in detail the electromagnetic analogy for the gravitational field using a fully covariant approach. The nonlinear vacuum field equations are shown to be invariant under duality rotations, defined in terms of the electric and magnetic parts of the Weyl tensor. We construct the super-energy density and super-Poynting vector of the gravitational field as natural U(1) group invariants, and derive their super-energy conservation equation. The linearized Demianski-Newman gravito-magnetic monopole is shown to be covariantly dual to the linearized Schwarzschild gravito-electric monopole, after interchange of acceleration and vorticity.
