Abstract
No involvement of the central nervous system was found in 31 typical cases of erythema chronicum migrans. The simultaneous occurrence of meningitis and ECM seems to be infrequent. ECM is not caused by the tick-borne encephalitis virus. On the other hand, the meningeal symptoms in the published eases of ECM may have been due to a coincidental infection with the tick-borne encephalitis virus. Therefore, all ECM patients with meningeal symptoms ought to be examined for viral tick-borne meningoencephalitis. Keywords
