Dynamics of the Local Moment Induced by Nonmagnetic Defects in Cuprates
Abstract
We present a comprehensive study of the spin dynamics of local magnetic defects induced by nonmagnetic substitution (here Li) of the plane Cu in the normal state of YBa2Cu3O{6+x}. The fluctuations of the Cu moments in the vicinity of Li are probed by both near-neighbour-Yttrium and Lithium NMR spin lattice relaxation. From the isolated impurity behaviour for Li concentrations less than about 1%, we extract the T dependence of the correlation time of the local magnetic moment. It is found proportional to the local static susceptibility from the underdoped to the overdoped regime. This correlation is remarkably reminiscent of the behaviour of Kondo impurities in conventional metals. Keywords
