Abstract
The Superb Pitta Pitta superba, an almost wholly unknown rainforest endemic of Manus Island, Papua New Guinea, was investigated in June/July 1990. On the basis of its call, a rising then falling whistle given twice, it appears to occur at low densities and may be restricted to hillier areas where stones can help break snail shells. The snake Boiga irregularis may affect this and one other Manus endemic bird. Keywords
