Abstract
When placental tissue of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) was cultured on liquid medium with 4% sucrose but with no hormones, many ovules, instead of maturing normally, grew as elongate, style-like structures with terminal stigmas. A limited number of these formed a proximal swelling with ovules. The significance of these results is discussed briefly. Keywords
