Abstract
IT has become clear in recent years that there are several genetic subtypes of thalassemia. Two of these types have been called "A2 thalassemia" and "F thalassemia" by Fessas.1 In heterozygotes of the former type there is a distinct elevation of hemoglobin A2, with normal or only slightly elevated values of fetal hemoglobin. In "F-thalassemia trait" hemoglobin A2 is normal in amount, and the fetal hemoglobin is elevated, sometimes to a striking degree.In this study we report a large family extending over three generations, the description of which clearly indicates that a genetic factor causes . . .Keywords
