Abstract
Rape is a crime of violence that is expressed in the sexual act.1 2 3 Women are usually the victims, although men may also be raped. Although the victim is assaulted physically, her autonomy and self-esteem are even more profoundly violated. For the victim, rape is experienced as a life-threatening crisis that has both immediate and long-term effects.Elsewhere in this issue of the Journal, Drs.
