Abstract
After a general explanation of the nature and importance of colour rendering, the more significant experimental contributions to the subject are described in some detail. The `colour shift' method of appraisal is shown to be not yet sufficiently developed for practical application; the `spectral band' method, however, has been fully investigated experimentally and provides a practical system of colour rendering assessment. The tolerances found by laboratory experiment have been shown by full-scale tests to be very nearly correct for general application. Keywords
