Abstract
The first and second negative systems of the oxygen molecular ion were excited in a modulated or sharply interrupted pulsed rf discharge. Lifetimes for both excited levels were deduced from the observed fluorescence decay times. Relative values were calculated from the phases of the emission in a number of vibronic bands of the second negative system. Oscillator‐strength values are presented for both systems, and the variation of the transition moments with internuclear separation was investigated. Keywords
