Abstract
The relationship between EPI Lie score and verbal IQ was examined, using groups of adults who covered the whole IQ range above the subnormal level. A group of 134 inpatients and a group of 191 outpatients both showed similar linear negative correlations between the two variables. Within the inpatients the L score was found to be related to diagnosis, higher scores being found in diagnoses implying greater loss of “insight”. Both findings were taken as evidence that a considerable amount of the L score variance is related to awareness of one's own behaviour. Keywords
