EFFECT OF FOOD QUALITIES ON PROTEIN PATTERN OF THE HAEMOLYMPH OF A MILLIPEDE ORTHOMORPHA GRACILIS

Abstract
Food qualities affect total haemolymph protein content in both sexes of the millipede Orthomorpha gracilis. Animals fed on preferred leaf litter of Ficus sycamore have higher concentration of haemolymph protein than those fed on less preferred leaf litter of Hedera helix. Electrophoretic fractionation of proteins was also investigated; two fractions only have been demonstrated. Fraction I is higher when preferred leaf litter of Ficus sycamore is used as food, and it is suggested that this type of litter is rich in the parent amino acids necessary for the synthesis of this fraction.Résumé: EFFET DES QUALITES DE LA NOURRITURE SUR LA COMPOSITION EN PROTEINES DE L'HEMOLYMPHE, CHEZ UN MYRIAPODE: ORTHOMORPHA GRACILISLes qualités alimentaires affectent la teneur en protéines totales de l'hémolymphe, chez les deux sexes du myriapode Orthomorpha gracilis. Les animaux nourris sur leur litière végétale préférée, celle des feuilles de Ficus sycamore ont une plus haute concentration du sang en protéine que ceux nourris sur une litière d'Hedera helix qui est moins recherchée.Le fractionnement des protéines par électrophorèse a mis en évidence seulement deux fractions. La fraction I est plus importante quand la nourriture consiste de litière foliaire de Ficus sycamore; il est suggéré que ce type de litière est riche en acides aminés utilisés pour la synthèse de cette fraction protéique.
