Abstract
Within the Alicante and Murcia provinces (Spain) the superposition of two large structural units can be seen: the Prebetic autochthonous complex in the north and the Subbetic allochthonous complex in the south. The autochthonous complex reflects a dual evolution in space and time which is expressed in the Tertiary as two provinces--the Prebetic of Alicante and the western Prebetic--and in the Jurassic and Cretaceous by the development of a north to south facies differentiation. The Subbetic domain on the other hand represents homogeneous sedimentation and constitutes a single paleogeographic unit. The Subbetic rests unconformably on southern formations of the Prebetic, its maximum observable displacement being on the order of 15-20 km.
