Abstract
To the Editor: We would like to report on the course of a case of propylene glycol intoxication accompanied by development of lactic acidosis. The patient, a 58-year-old man who was known to have chronic schizophrenia, was admitted to the hospital in a stupor; he had been reported to be in satisfactory condition the previous evening. Laboratory tests showed a blood pH of 7.25, a carbon dioxide level of 11 mmol per liter, an anion gap of 28 meq per liter, and a blood level of lactic acid that was markedly elevated at 18 meq per liter. Pyruvic acid was . . .Keywords
