Abstract
A controlled study with 37 patients showed that metronidazole was as effective as benzyl penicillin in the chemotherapy of acute dental infections. Metronidazole has also been used in the treatment of more than 100 patients with acute dental infections with completely satisfactory results. These findings suggest that obligate anaerobes are the causal microorganisms in acute dental infections. Metronidazole is considered to be the drug of choice for the treatment of these infections. Keywords
