Abstract
Overwhelmingly, the research on excellent companies shows that they are the result of excellent management. It is not technology, geography, labour pools, government intervention or any other external factor that makes the significant, long‐term difference. It is the performance of management. It is the individual managers alone in their offices, in one‐on‐one interactions, and in their roles as group and team leaders, defining and transmitting the values and vision of the organisation.
