Nutritional Requirements for an Oral Strain of Lactobacillus Acidophilus

Abstract
Studies were made on the nutritional requirements of a strain of Lactobacillus isolated from the oral cavity. The organism was identified as a common strain occurring in the mouths of 30 individuals exhibiting dental caries. The organism was then grown in a medium consisting of only the essential substances which were glucose, tryptophane, Na acetate, K phosphates, thiamin hydrochloride, Ca pantothenate, nicotinic acid and casein hydrolysate (vitamin free), and in this media maximal acid was produced.
