Abstract
In this article, we introduce ensembles of random matrices in which not all of the matrix elements are functionally independent. The functional dependence is defined by restricting the class of unitary similarity transformations which will diagonalize a member of the ensemble. The statistical properties of the eigenvalues are then studied for some of these ensembles. Keywords
